REAACH Study

Resilient Environments Advancing Adolescent and Child Health

Socioeconomic status is a fundamental determinant of long-term health. Yet, research suggests that socioeconomic advantage and disadvantage may not influence health similarly for Black and Latino adults. Why does socioeconomic status yield differential impacts on health, and how does family social class shape health in pre-teens and teens?

To answer these questions, the REAACH Study aims to recruit a racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse sample of children and families so we can understand the varied sources of risk and resilience that shape youth behavioral, mental, and physical health and family well-being. This research will fill critical gaps in the health development literature, help clarify the mechanisms underlying health disparities in childhood and beyond, and inform intervention and prevention efforts designed to mitigate health inequities.
