EMPOWER Study

Engaged Minds Promoting Optimal Well-being and Emotional Resilience

Mental health experiences are deeply influenced by cultural values, beliefs, and family dynamics. The EMPOWER study employs a mixed-methods approach, employing surveys and individual, dyadic semi-structured interviews, to examine how Latino-origin parents and adolescents define their cultural identities and how culturally-salient factors may shape mental health and well-being. Findings from EMPOWER will contribute to a deeper understanding of how cultural identity informs mental health discourse within families and, ultimately, inform culturally-responsive interventions to promote adolescent well-being and resilience.
